NAME: Jim Sartell POSITION: Durable Medical Equipment Market Specialist BACKGROUND: Custom manufacturing has been the central theme in Jim Sartell’s background. “Over twenty years in aluminum and plastics processing proves to be a valuable experience for me, and a great resource for our customers. The ability to recognize opportunities, participate in the design process, then facilitate a project, brings great reward and satisfaction,” said Sartell.
Since earning a BS Engineering degree at Saint Cloud State University, Sartell has gone almost full circle, starting and ending in the extrusion process. “Those early years in plastic profile extrusion may not be exactly the same as the aluminum extrusion process, but you’d be surprised with the similarities.” Sartell can also apply his experience with various plastic molding and aluminum casting processes to compare and recognize a good application for aluminum extrusions.
Sartell’s roles have also evolved through the years. “Prior to my experience as an Account Manager and Sales Engineer, I spent fourteen years in Production and Plant Management positions. Understanding and appreciating the operations side of business is a plus when it comes to working as a team, whether within our organization or with a customer,” said Sartell. Part design, tooling and equipment design, and process development are also part of Sartell’s background. “It’s rewarding to take a concept and develop it to production status. With proper resource utilization and involvement, customers can realize the benefits of aluminum’s properties, such as a high strength to low weight ratio, and incorporate a variety of design features into their extrusions. Customers can take advantage of the low cost tooling and short sampling lead-times available with our process,” Sartell stated. EXPERTISE: As a Sales Specialist, Sartell will utilize his well-rounded experience to recognize appropriate applications and implement the steps necessary to complete a successful project. “This area of business represents another set of activities, challenges and rewards,” said Sartell. “Seeing how companies operate, developing relationships, understanding and communicating their needs, are all vital to achieve a solution.” PHILOSOPHY ON CUSTOMER SERVICE: “Whether you’re reviewing tooling, part design, or program management, it is crucial to know what is capable and how to get it done in a timely, efficient manner. It’s recognizing what is needed, and working to that goal,” Sartell explained. “Strong Partnership”
